  • High winds and rough seas over the next few days may bring some hatchlings back to shore. If you find one, DO NOT put it back in the water. It needs to be placed in a container of moist sand (not water) or something similar, until a BSTP volunteer can come pick it up. Call us at 904-613-6081 and we will respond ASAP. Once you receive further instructions from us, please do not deviate from the plan, as it could mean the difference between life and death for the hatchling.
  • Thursday October 11, 5-7pm, bring the kids to the BookMark to meet children's author Jan Brett, who will be signing her new book, "Mossy", about a turtle growing a garden on her shell. BSTP will have a hands-on exhibit of sea turtle artifacts and a volunteer to answer all your questions. See the flyer for details on how to get a free poster.
  • Saturday 9/15 is International Coastal Clean Up Day. Join us from 7-9 a.m. on the beach at Atlantic Blvd., Beach Blvd. or 16th Ave. South. We provide bags, gloves and free t-shirt coupon.

  • Nests in south Jax Beach are getting predated by loose dogs again. Folks, please act responsibly with your dogs while near the turtle nests. At least 18 eggs have already been destroyed.
  • Come out and join us for the annual 5th of July beach clean up from 7-9 a.m. Sign in stations at Atlantic Blvd., Beach Blvd. and 16th Ave. South will provide gloves and trash bags.
  • Four nests in south Jax Beach were vandalized overnight on 6/19-20. No eggs were damaged but all protective materials had to be repaired. Reports have been made to Jax Beach police and FL Fish & Wildlife Law Enforcement.
  • You're invited to the 10th annual Sea Turtle Art Show at First Street Gallery which benefits BSTP. Show runs 5/16 through 6/18, opening reception 5/18, 7-9 pm.
  • We find ourselves in a happy predicament this year in terms of volunteer participation. Last season we had an overage of volunteers and some had to double up. This year we have enough people returning that we have no openings for new folks. We have been working towards this goal for about 7 years. We realize that many hopefuls were disappointed to hear this news at our season kick off meeting. We did not know for certain how many volunteers were returning until a few days before the meeting. If you attended the meeting you will be at the head of the line the next time we are accepting new recruits. In the meantime, if you see us out on patrol feel free to say hello and ask questions. Thanks for your support and we'll see you on the beach!
  • Come visit the BSTP exhibit at Jax Zoo's Earth Day Party for the Planet on Saturday 4/14.
  • Annual members newsletter now available online.
  • The season kickoff and volunteer orientation meeting for 2012 season will be on Thursday April 12, 6:30 pm at Beaches Library. Pre-registration is NOT required.
  • Annual Polar Plunge Saturday 2/4: A1A Parrot Head Club will be meeting at the foot of Atlantic Blvd on the beach by One Ocean Resort at 8:30am to brave the frigid surf and raise funds for the Beaches Sea Turtle Patrol! Please join us in supporting this fantastic local environmental effort. If you have any questions, contact a1aphc@gmail.com.
